Cicor wins large-volume contracts in the PCB Division

09/18/2012

Zurich, September 18, 2012 – Cicor (SIX Swiss Exchange: CICN), a high-tech industrial group and international leader in the areas of printed-circuit boards, microelectronics and electronic solutions headquartered in Boudry (Switzerland), is adding to its existing array of blanket orders with customers in the Printed Circuit Boards Division. The contracts are from the medical and consumer-electronics sectors and represent an overall volume in the double-digit million range. They are already having an effect on sales in the current fiscal year and will continue to do so in 2013.

The fact that Cicor has been awarded the extended contract is a sign of its consistent focus on current market requirements and successful implementation of the strategy to position the company as the preferred partner for customers with recurrent, large-volume contracts. To this end, at the start of 2012 Cicor consolidated its manufacturing capacities for printed circuit boards manufacturing in Switzerland at the Boudry site. Parallel to this, the Division extended its technology leadership and invested in new production facilities for chemical plating and galvanic copper plating, among others. With the vertical integration of these additional processing stages, which were previously outsourced, the PCB Division is expanding its added value and achieving significantly increased flexibility in handling large contracts. Furthermore, manufacturing throughput times have been significantly reduced.

The handover of the former production facilities in Unterägeri to the new owner marked the completion of the PCB Division's transfer of its systems and activities to Boudry. By bundling its capabilities, Cicor is ensuring it has a decisive competitive advantage and is achieving a more cost-effective structure.

3D-MID technology – major customer order in the security sector

The 3D-MID technology center has also made some pioneering advances. Following intensive groundwork over the past few months and various successful pilot phases, Cicor is now harvesting the fruit of its strategic investment in this future-oriented technology. Cicor received an initial order in the field of security from a major customer involved in building technologies. These days, an increasing number of applications with electrical and electro-optical switches are being implemented using 3DMID technology, as it enables the integration of mechanical and electronic functions in one component in an extremely small space.
