Position Overview:

Responsible for selecting suppliers and negotiating prices for materials and/or services required, so ensuring procedure of nominated materials and services are to agreed programmes by the most economic, timely and efficient means.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining assigned supplier relations by selecting suppliers and negotiating prices for material and/or services required, so ensuring procurement of nominated materials and services to agreed programmes by the most economic, timely and efficient means
  • Analyze, negotiate and report supplier price changes
  • Conduct periodic commodity surveys to obtain price comparisons; evaluate market trends to develop new services and create cost savings
  • Responsible for forecasting market trends affecting material and service availability costs, raw material and products
  • Select new and alternative sources of supply and in collaboration with technical staff select new and alternative materials and services, providing technical and/or commercial advantage to the company
  • Ensure all purchasing requisitions and programmes are correct and reflect the current supplier’s lead-times, keeping management and user departments informed where changes threaten work programmes
  • Identify potential problem areas and recommend changes
  • Follow up on rejected material and obtain necessary credit
  • Minimise the company’s exposure with regard to MOQ’s and price increases, obtaining the relevant authority levels
  • Proactive liaison with other departments as necessary to forecast, plan to meet, and to supply demand to relevant quality
  • Meeting health & safety requirements
  • Ensure compliance with company codes of conduct
  • Administration and reporting as required
  • Payment terms negotiation, optimisation and management
  • International trading issues/imports/legal, awareness
  • To identify & drive continuous improvements within the areas of control
  • Control and minimise excess and cost / stock.

Qualifications/Skills/Personal Qualities – CORE

  • Minimum qualifications 2 A levels or HNC, or CIPS Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years’ experience of Purchasing within a manufacturing environment essential
  • Good Communication skills, both verbally, and written
  • Good interpersonal/ relationship building skills
  • Complete ownership
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Numerate and literate
  • Ability to work on own initiative is essential.
  • Ability to show proactiveness rather than reactiveness

     

Qualifications/Skills/Personal Qualities – DESIRABLE

  • Ability to work in team orientated environment but also being able to demonstrate results working independently.
  • Basic understanding of electronic manufacturing and components
  • Membership of CIPS is an advantage
